Activating bystanders and untwisting data

As the northern hemisphere cools, there appear to be few signs that temperaments are cooling down. Societies are becoming ever more divided – with distinct camps emerging, largely according to differing views on a single, invisible virus and the way our fellow humans are choosing to handle it. This is leading to high levels of cognitive dissonance that threaten the function of many communities, societies and even nations.

In our lead piece, I look at what might be driving this dissonance, drawing on the views of one of the world’s leading psychologists who has spent a lifetime studying the conditions that lead governments and powerful groups to commit crimes against humanity.
