This month’s Members’ Briefing and Q&A can be summed up as the cycle of life, nature & babies and water!
Rob and Meleni are once again in the States combining presenting at the ICIM Conference along with attending the ANH-USA board meeting. We had some great questions for them both to answer and ensuing conversation.
Topics discussed include the continued battle to get PFAS chemicals – found in everything from waterproofing products, fire retardents, cooking pan coatings (think teflon!) including the new craze of air fryers to pesticides – banned due to the harm they cause. Parkinson’s disease, sub fertility and getting pregnant, filtering and structuring water and why we shouldn’t ignore ‘symptoms’. Listen to Meleni’s fascinating explanation that symptoms are our body’s “Frustrated search for a solution“. The more you ignore the signs the more symptoms the body will produce.
It’s an information packed conversation with lots of pearls to be found!

00:15:02 Michelle Felix: Couldn’t be more different!
00:17:44 Michelle Felix: yep
00:18:23 Wanda: I’ve heard a lot of people are waking at 5am. Anyone here the same?
00:18:39 Melissa Smith: That’s my normal time during the week!
00:18:50 Jacky: I’m the opposite, I feel like a teenager, not able to get up! : )
00:24:59 Julie: will we be able to watch the conference as a recording?
00:25:23 Meleni Aldridge: Jacky that’s totally understandable. It’s very much a mix at the moment of those feeling overwhelm and a need to step back and restore right now and those that are feeling completely fired up, energised and wanting to meet every challenge head on. Follow your body’s calling to rest!
00:26:11 Meleni Aldridge: I’m not sure if they’re recording this conference. I’ll check and let you know. I think it’s more in-person than a hybrid and they didn’t livestream last year.
00:29:08 Jacky: Thanks Meleni, that’s so interesting. I do feel overwhelmed (despite also wanting to meet the challenge). I will rest and restore and hopefully come back reenergised 🙏
00:32:14 Melissa Smith: There are some concerns about microplastics in plants now.
00:32:32 Melissa Smith: https://theconversation.com/microplastics-are-they-poisoning-crops-and-jeopardising-food-production-252060
00:32:37 Meleni Aldridge: Reacted to “Thanks Meleni, that’…” with ❤️
00:34:53 Dian Shepperson: Univ Oxford research is showing how bad it is for you. I never had a microwave either.
Stews casseroles soups broths safest way to cook
00:35:39 Meleni Aldridge: Replying to “Univ Oxford research…”
Agreed! Never owned a microwave either and am passionate about my InstantPot which pressure cooks, slow cooks and many other programmes.
00:36:32 Meleni Aldridge: Replying to “Univ Oxford research…”
The two gadgets I’m definitely finding space for in my motorhome are my Vitamix and my InstantPot 🙂
00:36:42 Melissa Smith: Reacted to “The two gadgets I’m …” with 😃
00:37:35 Dian Shepperson: Replying to “Univ Oxford research…”
Drinking water comes into homes via blue plastic pipes
00:38:20 Meleni Aldridge: Replying to “Univ Oxford research…”
That’s where an under sink reverse osmosis system comes in very useful.
00:38:26 Dian Shepperson: Replying to “Univ Oxford research…”
Pyrex pans
00:39:47 Jacky: I interviewed a botanical dyer once and it was so interesting to hear that whatever vessel she boiled the dyes in (steel, aluminium, copper etc) affected the colour of the plant dye. I was shocked how much the material of the pot leaches into what is in the pot
00:41:12 Dian Shepperson: Replying to “Univ Oxford research…”
This parrot is dead!!
00:41:50 Caroline @ Phoenix Home Staging UK: So if fluoride is added to drinking water, when used in cooking is that converted to fluorine when heated/boiled?
00:42:39 Melissa Smith: https://www.squarefoodfoundation.co.uk/
00:44:53 Dian Shepperson: I taught home economics for 30 years, local seasonal foods
Then vegan and vegetarian cookery for twenty years at nightschool to adults
00:45:48 Meleni Aldridge: Replying to “I taught home econom…”
It’s a travesty Dian that they’ve done away with that term now and call it Food Technology! Says it all really. Definitely not about real food.
00:46:31 Michelle Felix: Can I just check, if PFAS is getting into our drinking water – does filtering get rid of it?
00:47:57 Julie: Interesting article about dental fluoride – https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7261729/
00:48:07 Dian Shepperson: Fluoride versus plastic bottles !
Can we not persuade then to return to glass bottles
Drives iodine down in body both chlorine and fluoride
00:50:23 Michelle Felix: Which was the best RO and restructuring process in UK again?
00:50:43 Dian Shepperson: Chlorine levels were doubled during Iraqi wars because worries of germ warfare, and has never been reduced again
Chlorine is oestrogenic
00:52:49 Michelle Felix: Thank you, that would be so helpful, good info on filters! Ok 4l for me prob, and re-mineralise – assume this is different to restructuring?
00:53:28 Melissa Smith: MRI Concentrated Mineral Drops can be used for remineralisation as well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Concentrated-Mineral-Drops-CMD-120ML/dp/B00BMS8GTQ
00:53:53 Wanda: We use this company and they’re always very responsive to queries. They also give all the FAQs about costs etc. Honest people it seems https://www.uk-water-filters.co.uk/
00:54:03 Dian Shepperson: Replying to “I taught home econom…”
How to design an ergonomic scrubbing brush is now taught 😱
00:54:14 Michelle Felix: Thank you!!
00:54:23 Melissa Smith: Reacted to “How to design an erg…” with 🤪
00:56:45 Michelle Felix: And our dogs!
00:56:45 Dian Shepperson: Replying to “I taught home econom…”
We cost too much
Big food didn’t want us around
I had more money than physics, chemistry and biology put together.
Food was subsidised by 1/3
Had to supply dish’s as no one cooked at home
30 ovens on most days
Then laundry to do at end of school
We were threatened by cola companies
00:56:52 Caroline @ Phoenix Home Staging UK: Reacted to “How to design an erg…” with 🤦♀️
00:57:30 Meleni Aldridge: Yes, Rob’s dog is so funny, she hardly wants to drink but if you put down a bowl of restructured water, she’ll have that no problem!
00:57:39 Meleni Aldridge: Filtered and restructured!
00:58:27 Meleni Aldridge: Thank you Wanda. If anyone else has recommendations for RO or restructuring systems, please do share. I’ll try and find the link of the device I have. It’s from Europe and I just loved the look of it!
00:58:54 Michelle Felix: Is it harder to restructure distilled?
00:59:40 Dian Shepperson: The tap water in the rooms came through in the morning looking like oxtail soup
Univ Sussex tested it and very high in copper
Hence my endo I think
High Cu levels linked to ovarian cysts
Calcium and copper both oestrogenic
01:01:50 Dian Shepperson: My friend has just died last Thursday of Parkinson’s. We were at primary, junior school and Manchester univ together
Look at Lucille Leaders books on Parkinson’s disease and nutrition. Excellent results
Lucille Leader – https://lucilleleader.com/
01:02:23 Dian Shepperson: Some people will use nutrition others will not
01:03:00 Meleni Aldridge: Replying to “The tap water in the…”
So interesting, I didn’t know that and will definitely take note.
01:03:58 Meleni Aldridge: Replying to “My friend has just d…”
So sorry to hear this. I’ve lost friends of my parents too – farmers with a lifetime of exposure to pesticides who only went the conventional route. Yes! Lucille Leader is amazing. I’ll mention that again when Rob’s finished speaking.
01:04:30 Wanda: Talking of agricultural toxins, is it true that DDT and polio are/were connected?
01:05:05 Dian Shepperson: Gordon Hillman ( UCL Professor) hunter gatherer world expert, he was my friend and developed Parkinson’s
He blamed it on mercury the farms ‘dressed’ crops with
01:05:23 Meleni Aldridge: Found it – here’s the link to the water restructuring vessel that I use. Definitely not saying it’s the best, I just love the look of it 🙂 https://mayuwater.com
01:06:28 Dian Shepperson: Polio may be in jab from monkey contamination in vaccine?
01:06:49 Michelle Felix: Reacted to “Found it – here’s th…” with ❤️
01:08:12 Jenny Hovsepian: my understanding is where there are pesticides there is parkinsons
01:08:32 Gillie Guy: Reacted to “Found it – here’s th…” with ❤️

01:10:15 Julie: Thank you so much that is great x
01:10:35 Jenny Hovsepian: patients are unable to convert vitamin B6 toPyridoxal 5 Phosphate to convert L Dopa to Dopamine
01:12:15 Meleni Aldridge: Thanks Jenny – cofactors are so important and whether it’s a genetic SNP or a deficiency of vitamins and minerals, I think the nutritional piece is essential.
01:15:33 Dian Shepperson: On my kitchen walL
“It’s absolutely insane not to be a health nut.
It’s crazy not to care about how you treat your body, it’s the ONLY ONE you are going to get”
