Last Sunday and Monday was an opportunity for much of the UK natural products sector to come together at ExCel to celebrate how far it’s got. When we founded ANH back in 2002 it was because the EU Food Supplements Directive threatened so many vitamin and mineral supplements. Challenges like that create cohesion – and there’s no doubt the sector, nearly two decades on, is now much more cohesive and resilient. It was at this very expo in 2002 that I first mentioned that we might do well to think about strategies to safeguard the future of the sector using the lens of sustainability. The suggestion was then met with quizzical looks. That’s not the case today – sustainability is front and centre. Check out our video based on footage we took from the event.
It’s #Throwback Thursday, so with sustainability being at the forefront of our minds, we’ve done this week’s #TBT on our work on applying sustainability to health care itself. Hopefully there’s some good stuff there for sharing among those who’ve yet to be enlightened in this area.
Our weekly news update includes Oz government rethink on natural therapy rebates after grassroots backlash, more science on gut/autism link, the Lancet journal’s recognition of killer diets and more evidence on the risks of pesticides and other chemical nasties.
