The plant-meat-food-drug battleground

There are few areas in science that are more controversial than nutrition. That’s despite eating being the one thing that links all of us together, billions having been spent on research in the field of nutritional science over many decades, as well as it being the most intimate way each one of us experiences our external environment.

If it were only about science, things would be a bit more straightforward. But it’s also about commercial interests, and they’re not only in Big Food and Pharma.

This week, we explore a couple of very thorny areas of nutrition – ones that are highly topical at present.

Firstly, I dig into the issue of drug-free diabetes remission. It’s a scientific fact, yet why are so few engaged in it. Are commercial interests slowing down the release of life-saving information?  And, if we decide not to rely on drugs, do we have to resort to commercial products or services of one form or another, as suggested by some of the recently published clinical trials?

In our second piece, we look in some detail at a category of carbohydrate, fibre. We’ve been motivated to do this as there’s a trend to reduce, or even entirely eliminate, intake of plant foods. It’s confusing for people to hear this message when there’s simultaneously so much chatter about the benefits of plant-based diets. Check out what we have to say – and most importantly, make up your own mind!

In health, naturally and sustainably
