When no means no and the sunshine vitamin

This week’s eAlert may have a summer theme, but our first story is anything but sunny.

In preparation for the start of the new school year, we release worrying information about bullying and intimidation in some UK schools over the HPV vaccine. Whilst nurses and school staff may well believe so wholeheartedly in the benefits conferred by the HPV vaccine, we reveal that at times, education is becoming intimidation. This is an article written for parents or guardians with daughters aged 12 or 13. It’s also for those of us who care about upholding our human (and parental) rights and freedom of choice in healthcare.

Our second story is a lighter read – both metaphorically and literally. It’s all about vitamin D and the reason why we’re so dependent on the sun for our health and wellbeing. We hope it removes some heliophobia (fear of the sun!) and motivates you to have your vitamin D levels checked.
