Governments and twisted healthcare

In the so-called democratic world, governments act as the executive body that carries out duties agreed by our elected representatives through a parliamentary system. That’s how the sugar tax came to us in the UK, following the lead of Mexico, where it appears to have failed. In our lead story, we look at how our genetic blueprint may be the complicating factor that prevents sugar taxes from working.

Governments also oversee how our healthcare systems work. While, on one hand the Swiss government has seen fit to legitimise homeopathy following an evaluation of the scientific evidence, our second story shows how the Australian government has done precisely the opposite. To get there, the responsible government body had to manipulate the science. Fortunately, for the sake of freedom of choice and continued public access to a system of medicine that has benefited millions the world over, serious push back is in progress.

Remember too to check out our weekly natural health news. We report on a Big Pharma-funded study that says statin side-effects are all in our head (!!!) and on the deception around recent news stories that (wrongly) suggest gluten-free diets might increase our risk of heart disease.

In health, naturally
